Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) apply to your use of BooknClean’s website and mobile applications (together, the “Platform”). By accessing the Platform, creating an account, or making/accepting a booking, you agree to these Terms.

1. Definitions
- "Booking": a booking for Cleaning Services made through the Platform.
- "Household/Client": a household user or a commercial user (e.g., landlord, estate agent, business) booking Cleaning Services.
- "Platform Fee": the £2.99 fee charged by BooknClean per Booking (where applicable).
- "Content": reviews, ratings, messages, images, listings, and other content posted to or shared via the Platform.
2. BooknClean is a Marketplace (Important)
2.1 BooknClean provides a booking and communication platform connecting Households/Clients with independent, self-employed Cleaners.
2.2 BooknClean does not provide Cleaning Services and is not a party to the contract between the Cleaner and the Household/Client.
2.3 The Cleaner is solely responsible for the quality, performance, and delivery of Cleaning Services.
2.4 Nothing in these Terms creates employment, worker, agency, partnership, or joint venture relationships between BooknClean and any user.
3. Eligibility and Accounts
3.1 You must be 18 or older to use the Platform.
3.2 You must provide accurate information and keep your account details up to date.
3.3 You must not impersonate another person or use information you are not authorised to use.
3.4 You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for activity under your account.
4. Separate Terms for Households/Clients and Cleaners
These Terms apply to all users, but Sections 5–7 apply specifically to Households/Clients and Sections 8–11 apply specifically to Cleaners.
HOUSEHOLDS/CLIENTS TERMS
5. Bookings and Your Responsibilities
5.1 When you request a Booking, you are offering to enter into a direct contract for Cleaning Services with a Cleaner.
5.2 You agree to provide a safe working environment including reasonable access, adequate lighting, safe conditions, and clear instructions where needed.
5.3 You should secure or remove important, delicate, or valuable items. BooknClean is not responsible for any loss or damage to valuables.
5.4 You must not attempt to circumvent the Platform's payment systems where doing so breaches these Terms or undermines Platform safety and integrity.
6. Prices, Payment, and Platform Fee
6.1 Cleaners set their own rates and availability.
6.2 Payments are processed via Stripe (and later may be via Stripe Connect).
6.3 You authorise BooknClean (or our payment processor) to charge your payment method for:
- the Booking amount, and
- the Platform Fee (£2.99) (where applicable), and
- any cancellation or late-cancellation fees under Section 7.
6.4 BooknClean does not store full card details. Payment processing is handled by Stripe in accordance with Stripe's terms and privacy practices.
6.5 You must maintain valid payment details and update them if they change.
7. Cancellations, No-Shows, Refunds, and Credits
7.1 Household/Client cancellations
Your cancellation fee depends on when you cancel:

If card booking applies, BooknClean automatically deducts the cancellation fee.
Where a cancellation fee is charged: Cleaner receives 80% and Platform retains 20%.
7.2 Cleaner cancellations
If the Cleaner cancels, you receive a 100% refund.
7.3 Cleaner no-show
If the Cleaner does not arrive and does not deliver the service, you receive a 100% refund, and the Cleaner may be penalised under Section 10.
BooknClean may (at our discretion) provide goodwill credits (e.g., £10-£15) to support retention, but this is not guaranteed.
7.4 Household/Client no-show / access issues
If the Cleaner arrives but cannot gain entry or reasonably start the job due to issues within your control, this may be treated as a late cancellation/no-show and may result in no refund.
7.5 Refund processing times
Refunds are typically processed within 3-5 business days, but card networks and banks may take longer.
CLEANERS TERMS
8. Cleaner Status and Responsibilities (Self-Employed)
8.1 You confirm you are a self-employed service provider and not an employee, worker, or agent of BooknClean.
8.2 You are solely responsible for:
- the Cleaning Services you provide
- your pricing and availability
- your taxes, NI, registrations, and legal compliance
- holding appropriate insurance (public liability strongly recommended)
8.3 BooknClean does not provide insurance.
9. Verification Requirements
9.1 You must successfully complete:
- ID verification, and
- Right to work verification
9.2 BooknClean may suspend or restrict access if verification expires, is incomplete, or appears unreliable.
10. Reliability, Cancellations, and Penalties (Cleaner)
Cleaner cancellations are handled by reliability actions (not money penalties):

BooknClean may adjust rankings/visibility or suspend accounts to protect user experience.
11. Payouts
11.1 BooknClean facilitates payment collection and will pay Cleaners to their nominated bank accounts (current model), and may move to Stripe Connect later for automated splits.
11.2 You are responsible for providing accurate bank details and keeping them up to date.
11.3 BooknClean may hold or delay payout where fraud, policy violations, chargebacks, or disputes are suspected.
TERMS APPLYING TO ALL USERS
12. In-app Messaging, Safety Check-in, and Incident Reporting
12.1 The Platform may include messaging, emergency safety check-ins, and incident reporting features.
12.2 These tools support safety but do not guarantee personal safety or outcomes.
12.3 You agree to use these tools lawfully and responsibly.
13. Reviews, Ratings, and Content
13.1 Users may post reviews and ratings. You agree your content will be truthful and not abusive, illegal, defamatory, or misleading.
13.2 You grant BooknClean a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, and adapt your Content for Platform operation (e.g., showing reviews).
14. Prohibited Use
You must not:
- misuse the Platform or interfere with security
- harass, discriminate, threaten, or abuse any person
- upload illegal content or attempt unauthorised access
- use the Platform in breach of any law or regulation
15. Disputes and Mediation
15.1 Disputes about Cleaning Services are between Cleaner and Household/Client.
15.2 BooknClean may offer mediation at our discretion as a goodwill measure.
15.3 If you want BooknClean to mediate, you must report the issue promptly and provide evidence we reasonably request.
16. Liability (Marketplace Protection) and "As Is"
16.1 The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available."
16.2 To the maximum extent permitted by law, BooknClean is not liable for acts/omissions of users, including theft, damage, poor service, or negligence by a Cleaner or a Household/Client.
16.3 Liability cap: BooknClean's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or in connection with the Platform or these Terms is limited to £500.
16.4 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death/personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
17. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold BooknClean harmless against claims arising from:
- your breach of these Terms
- your misuse of the Platform
- disputes between Cleaner and Household/Client
- your violation of law or third-party rights
18. Termination and Suspension
We may suspend or terminate accounts where we reasonably believe there is:
- fraud or abuse
- repeated cancellations/no-shows
- safety risk
- breach of Terms or law
19. Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post updates on the Platform and may notify you by email or push notification.
20. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
(If you still want an arbitration clause: we can include an arbitration option, but exclusive court jurisdiction and mandatory arbitration can conflict if not drafted carefully. I can add a voluntary or tiered ADR clause instead, which is cleaner for UK consumers.)
